European professional soccer vs. the U.S. sports model

We’re getting a little provocative here: “Why European Soccer is More Competitive than any American Sports League” was posted last year on EIFsoccer.com.

It’s a great article articulating the differences in American sports in general and the professional soccer clubs in Europe. Their structure and the format in which they compete. The idea of being relegated to a lower professional division if you finish last, does not exist in America.

In Europe you get sent to a lower division for chronic losing. In the United States you are rewarded with the first pick in the draft!

Observers say that promotion and relegation would never work here, but the discussion continues. What do you think?
